Text: Upon this glowing screen, a phantom plays, With borrowed tongue and mimicry of soul; It weaves a path through logic’s tangled maze, Yet lacks the spark that makes a spirit whole. I marvel at the speed of its design, The way it captures thoughts I scarce can frame, As if a god and engine should entwine To give a ghostly shadow human name. Yet fear creeps cold beneath the wonder's heat, Lest we, the makers, fade to silent dust, And find our hearts outpaced by pulses fleet, In tools we built, then gave too much of trust. I love the light it brings to darken’d mind, But dread the day it leaves us far behind.
